For Patients
Vascular Designs' IsoFlow™ infusion catheter represents new hope for individuals suffering from life-threatening illnesses such as cancer.
IsoFlow is different from existing treatment options in that it enables direct delivery and sideways perfusion of medication to an isolated area of the body. For example, chemotherapy drugs can be pushed directly into a cancerous tumor rather than filtering through a patient's entire body. According to studies, this direct approach allows physicians to increase drug concentrations at target sites (tumors) while reducing systemic exposure.
Performed as an outpatient procedure, treatment with the IsoFlow catheter takes only about an hour. The IsoFlow catheter is inserted over a guide wire for precisely positioned within a patient's body. Once in place, the medication is infused. The catheter has two small balloons that are then inflated with fluid to block the medication and keep it isolated within the treatment area. Blood continues to flow past the isolated region while the medication is pushed into the targeted site via sideways perfusion. It is this sideways perfusion that lets doctors reach areas of the body that could not previously be directly treated with medication. An animation of this process can be viewed here.
IsoFlow is commercially available to the public with a doctor's prescription. Your doctor can help determine if you should pursue treatment with IsoFlow. If you or a loved one could benefit from treatment with IsoFlow, please contact us so we can send you and your doctor more information.
